Rethinking education

In order to address wicked challenges and let our students experience to become agents of change, Windesheim Honours College developed a new educational concept: Value Creators. More than a concept, Value Creators is a community, an environment were we work with complex questions, wicked challenges and ask students to leave the walls of university campus to collaborate and learn from professional networks around the world.

The nature of wicked challenges require other ways of thinking and addressing compared to more "tame or complicated"challenges. Wicked challenges require a holistic approach, and the participation of different stakeholders and different disciplines.

During a whole semester, students work in creating societal value connecting with communities around the world. During the first weeks, we provide some tools through different workshops and training in Theory U, Complexity, Uncertainty, Networks, and our own developed E-Model.

There are no lessons anymore and students are in control of a big part of their final assessment, having the bounded freedom to take time to explore also at individual level activities and courses that can contribute to their own personal and professional development. They travel, participate in conferences, seminars, networking events, and also organize their own events and activities where they learn from each other.

Value Creators is an opportunity for our students to explore and experience what it is to be a change agent. They like the freedom and the responsibility that this concept offers. We work together to address the Sustainable Development Goals.

Why, what and how

If future generations are to remember us more with gratitude than sorrow, we must achieve more than just the miracles of technology. We must also leave them a glimpse of the world as it was created, not just as it looked when we got through with it. (Lyndon B. Johnson)
